The Problem

The main drop-down menu and slider nav elements will hide behind YouTube videos or other flash elements, such as SlideShare etc. This is a known problem with Flash z-indexing.

The Solution

The workaround for YouTube/slider content is to use the w=mode transparent property on the embed code. oEmbed is attempting to append this, but it is not working. See How to Add Featured Videos for details on using the post options panel.

Method 1: oEmbed

  1. Edit your post and append and ensure the URL you are using is the full browser URL to the video. The format is youtube.com/watch?v=yourvideoid
  2. Append ?wmode=transparent to the end of the video URL in the post options panel.

Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBmMU_iwe6U?wmode=transparent

Method 2: Embed Code

  1. Grab the iframe embed code for your video and paste it into the Embed Code field of the Post Options panel.
  2. Add ?wmode=transparent to the end of the video URL in your embed code. The optimal embed for videos destined for the slider is something like this:

<iframe width=”940″ height=”480″ src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/ZvBWKPx_ds8?wmode=transparent” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>
