Obox Mobile: Configure Plugin Options

The below documentation is for Obox Mobile Classic. If you have recently purchased Obox Mobile as currently seen on our site, please select Obox Mobile 2.

Get started by going to Obox MobileGeneral. You will be presented with a page containing five  tabs:

  • General
  • Logo&Images
  • Thumbnails
  • Posts&Discussion
  • Plugin Compatibility

Below are details covering the options available on these tabs.

General

Home Page

  1. Select a page to display on your home page or display your latest posts.
  2. If desired, select a category to exclude from the home page (this is especially useful when using the slider).

Menu Settings

Select whether to display the menu label or arrow icon in your mobile menu. You create this menu under Appearance Menus.

Featured Slider

This option allows you to display a slider on your mobile home page. Users operate it by simply sliding the posts left or right with their thumb.

To keep the mobile site as simple as possible and ensure a positive user experience,  this slider does not auto-slide.

Check the Enable box to get the slider to appear on your mobile home page.

Select a category and number of posts. The slider will grab the featured image of the posts in this category.

Heads Up: The Feature Post Slider has only been tested for  iOS and Android phone browsers.

Custom Footer Text

Simply enter in your own custom footer text. For example: “Copyright © YourSiteName”.

Site Analytics

If you would like a quick and painless way to implement Google Analytics, paste your preferred tracking code into this text area. Your code will then be insterted into the footer of the theme, which is best for performance reasons. If you would like your code in header, then you will need to insert it into the Theme Header under Appearence → Editor. Learn more about Google Analytics here.

Force Mobile Site

Force mobile adds a “mobile switch” link to your site’s footer allowing you to access your mobile site while using a normal browser. Use this setting if you want to test your mobile site in the browser. We suggest only using it if your site is not live or if you only want your site to be displayed in a mobile format. Please note that it may take a few minutes to take effect. Please close and reopen your browser or empty the cache for fastest results.

Save your options by clicking the Save Options button in the top-right or bottom-right corner.

Logos & Images

Custom Logo

This option allows you to upload a Custom Logo, the dimensions are 32 x 32 pixels. There is also the option to insert the URL of your logo. This is ideal if your logo is being hosted elsewhere.

You can upload as many logos as you like and then simply switch to the one you need at the time.

Custom Background

This option allows you to upload a Custom Background. For best results, use a background that is at least 460px wide.

You can upload as many backgrounds as you like and then simply switch to the one you need at the time.

App Mode Icon

This option is no longer supported for newer devices and will be removed in the next Obox Mobile update

App Mode Splash

This option is no longer supported for newer devices and will be removed in the next Obox Mobile update

Save your options by clicking the Save Optionsbutton in the top-right or bottom-right corner.

Thumbnails

These settings control how your thumbnails are displayed on your site.

Display On

Where do you want your thumbnails to be displayed? You have a choice to display them on Single Posts and/or Lists. Alternatively if you don’t want to display any thumbnails then simply select Neither.

Post Video

Specify the post meta field name used to add a featured video to your posts. Not all themes come with this functionality. If you are using a special plugin, you may need to enable custom fields on your posts to see the field name. From the post editor, click on Screen Options in the upper-right corner and check the Custom Fields box.

Post Thumbnail

Which image do you want used as your post thumbnail? In most cases, you can select WordPress Featured Thumbnail.

  • WordPress Thumbnail Feature – Select this option if you are using a standard WordPress theme.
  • Obox Main Image – Perfect If you are using an Obox Theme (uploaded when adding a new post).
  • Woothemes Custom Image – Select this option if you are using a Woothemes Theme for your main site.
  • Custom Image Meta – Select if you have a theme installed which uses the Custom Meta to upload images.

Custom Meta (advanced)

This setting is only used if you selected “Custom Image Meta” in the previous option. If you are using a special plugin for handling post images, you may need to enable custom fields on your posts to see the field name. From the post editor, click on Screen Options in the upper-right corner and check the Custom Fields box.

Use Timthumb

Check this box if thumbnails are not resizing nicely, then set the following:

Cropping: Because we are using TimThumb to crop your images, you have the option to choose which area of the photo is displayed. We always suggest using the Centered option but you can crop it from the Top, Left, Right or Bottom

Image Quality: Select your desired image quality.

WARNING: The higher the quality the longer the load time!

Save your options by clicking the Save Options button in the top-right or bottom-right corner.

Post & Discussion

This setting area lets you determine what should and should not be displayed within a list, post or page.

Categories:The categories are located underneath the post title.

Social Linking

Obox Mobile features social sharing buttons in posts and pages. Simply use the checkboxes to decide which social buttons you would like to appear. Your choices are Twitter, Facebook and/or Google Plus.

Save your options by clicking the Save Options button in the top-right or bottom-right corner.

Plugin Compatibility

The Plugin Compatibility section gives you control over which plugins you want to use alongside Obox Mobile. Not all plugins have been optimized for mobile devices, and therefore don’t need to run while your site is in mobile mode, as they will just slow the site down.

Check the box next to each plugin you wish to load on your mobile site. For best results, only choose plugins that affect the content or display features to your visitors.

Why doesn’t my plugin work on Obox Mobile?

Not all plugins have been optimized for mobile devices and therefore won’t function correctly. Mobile browsing poses completely different challenges to normal web browsing so there is usually a high chance that your plugin won’t be optimized for the small screen experience.

Please keep this in mind when installing plugins on your site.

A Special Note for Caching Plugins

If you are using W3Total Cache, you must configure the User-Agent settings. Please see the author website for details.
